Just Individual Assessment (JIA) Guide

The Just Individual Assessment Guide provides managers, human resources personnel, regulatory agencies (colleges) and others responsible for assessing the actions of an individual involved in a patient safety incident with the structure and tools to complete the task fairly.

The Just Individual Assessment (JIA) process was influenced by several partner organizations and created to support a just culture.

The JIA provides a fair and standardized approach to evaluate the actions of an individual involved in a patient safety event where a patient was harmed or nearly harmed. This guidebook includes background information and practical tools to support the JIA process.

The HQCA offers two Just Culture courses: a Systematic Systems Analysis (SSA) course and Just Individual Assessment (JIA) course. Learn more about these courses.
